In an effort to get more involvement in indymedia for the upcoming mobilization, and in general, we'll be doing a teach-in about the independent media center tonight at the Che cafe at 6pm.
This Saturday, September 6th, we will be flyering and doing outreach for the WTO mobilization at the border. Meet at Larsen Field in San Ysidro at 2:30pm. For a map to larsen field, see the convergence schedule on sdtjmobilization.org.
On August 30th, the Deconstructing Dinner Caravan will be in SD doing a teach-in about Genetically Engineered foods, organic farming and the FTAA. It will be from 1pm-3:30pm at the GLBT Center in Hillcrest. Contact us for flyers.
This is going to be a great event! Please bring your friends. If you would be interested in helping us do outreach for this event, please contact us at contact [at] revolutionsummersd [dot] com.
This Saturday's (Aug. 30th) flyering/outreach for the WTO mobilization has been cancelled. Our outreach materials will not be ready by Saturday. The Deconstructing Dinner Caravan is still happening this same day (see above).
The SD/TJ Mobilization is gaining more momentum every day. We're doing outreach to groups all over San Diego: labor, anti-war, environmental, and we're getting a great response. We've also gotten some national and international endorsements.
People realize that it is all tied in together, and the FTAA affects us all. The FTAA is a finance bomb and we don't want it any more than we wanted bombs to be dropped on Iraq. The border ties all these issues together, because as the US creates cheap, poor working conditions in other countries, and war ravaged ecologies and economies, people will attempt to flee the destruction, and the border must be even more militarized to keep these people out.
Come to San Diego. Help us resist the WTO, the FTAA, and the model that allows corporations without borders, while it holds people back at gunpoint from borders.
There's been a major change of plans this week. We just recently found out that Bush is coming to town. What better representative image do we have for our need for a revolution than Bush? With Bush, the US government has shred all illusion of being a democracy.
This week's teach-in will be about radical protest strategies and tactics. It will include a discussion of the many many reasons to oppose Bush, as well as self defense techniques for radical protesting. There will be lots of hands on workshop type of interaction, to prepare for Bush's visit on Thursday.
This week, revolution summer will be addressing the fact that poverty is a
form of oppression. The teach-in will be very full, as it is being handled by both
the California Coalition Against Poverty (CCAP) and Food Not Bombs. Both groups
will be discussing their motivations and tactics for confronting poverty
with direct action. Saturday's action will be organized by Food Not Bombs
with another possible action to be announced.
Also, last week's events went great! Both teach-ins were full to the gills, and
the actions went off well. A more complete report of the actions can be found
here
and here.
Lastly, the mobilization planning is gathering steam, but we still need a lot of
help! The next planning meeting it Tuesday, August 5th at 7:30pm at 2552 K St. in
Golden Hill. Please attend and help us to create a powerful protest to oppose
the FTAA! Details, updates and FTAA background info can be found
here.

Also, planning for the sd/tj mobilization is well under way. A broad coalition of groups from all over San Diego met this week to begin planning. We will be having another meeting this Tuesday at 7:30pm. The location is TBA, but mark your calendars! We need your help to stop the FTAA! If you would like to subscribe to our mailing list for mobilization info, send an email to contact [at] revolutionsummersd [dot] com. Great news! The office of the San Diego Foundation for Change (SDFC) is
available for the meeting of the Sept. border event organizers from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
on Tuesday, July 22! A big thanks to Jean, SDFC's Administrative Assistant!
The SDFC office is located at 3758 30th Street, 1 1/2 blocks south of University,
on the west side.
This meeting will be for planning the cross border mobilization that will coincide with the WTO protests in Cancun. If you're interested in helping organize that, please attend!
We are in the process of making big changes to the
structure of Revolution Summer. We feel that we have lost track
of one of our orginal goals: involving many groups
in the organizing of events. So far while all of our
events have gone well, all the actions so far have
still been organized by our rev summer collective.
Many of the dates have topics choosen but no group or
indivduals who are organizing on that issue. So if a
topic does not have an organizer for the time being we
are going to keep the teach-in schedule but cancel
the action, unless someone can step forword organize
it. If you are a local group and before you could
not fit in the schedule let us know. If you have a
group who might want to fill in and do a protest on
one of the topics that was already listed let us know.
The first most immediate change is the action on july
19th. The teach-in will still be happening that
wednesday but instead of an action on that issue, since
INS is not open on saturday, we are going to meet and
spread out into the city to do serious outreach.
Also, we have begun organizing for the cross border protest,
and will soon be having a public meeting to allow people to
come together to plan the event. More details will be coming soon...
Rod Coronado confirmed that he will be participating in Revolution Summer! He will be speaking Friday August 1 at 7pm at the GLBT
center in hillcrest.
Check the events page for more details on this week's teach in, and more background on Rod Coronado.
Correction! All teach-ins will take place at 6pm, unless otherwise noted. This is because the Che does shows Wedensday nights and we don't want to overlap, as they're nice and loud. More details about this awesome teach-in on the events page.
Posted some photos of what we've done so far to the events page. The first two events went great. Our guerilla theatre through Mission and Fashion Valley malls went great, and we passed out over 300 leaflets against the PATRIOT act to mall goers who were curious about the FBI agents in their midst.
Next action this saturday! Help stop the patriot act. Check it out on the events page.
Lots of great photos were taken at our kick off event and this will be posted soon. Sorry, your webmaster was off smashing the WTO in Sacramento and getting the word out about the rev summer mobilization at the end of the summer. More on that soon too.
New flyers for the police brutality protest on June 21st are here. Download them from the events page.
Also, we've made some changes to the calendar. We've moved the Earth Liberation week August 13th, 16th, and 17th, to accomodate our out of town visitors from Earth First Journal. It's going to kick ass.
There are some gorgeous new flyers available. Please print them and help us distribute them.

Also, we've made some changes to the events calendar. We're working hard on creating this summer of revolution!
The entire calendar of events has been posted! WooHoo! Its still preliminary, but most of the events are there and we'll be working hard on making them all great! Also, there is still room for more teach-ins and protests, so if your group wants to participate, contact us at contact [at] revolutionsummersd [dot] com.
Lots of updates have been made to the website lately. We've filled in more details on the
about page and the events page, and have added some groups to the groups page.
New outreach materials available on the events page! Website buttons and flyers so that
you can help us get the word out!
Planning for revolution summer is well underway. We've made a tentative schedule of
teach-ins and events around the following issues:
- Police Brutality
- Sweatshop Labor/Slavery
- The Patriot Act and The INS Special Registration Program
- Human Rights
- Animal Rights
- Radical Feminism
- The Militarization of our communities
- Anti-Globalization, stopping Empire
Revolution Summer will adress many of the issues that make up the massive system
of repression that we live under everyday. Throughout the summer, we will educate
the activist community and ourselves, learn how to better fight the system, and
we will fight it, hard, using powerful and creative forms of nonviolent resistance.
All of these events are tentative. We will soon publish a calendar of these events
so you can make your plans to come to San Diego and help us create the revolution.
You can help us by telling your friends, making plans to come, and bringing people.
Throughout the summer months of 2003, thousands of people people are planned
to gather in San Diego, CA to protest and take direct action against the many
issues and facets of the system that maintains a world based on power, class,
race, sex, and species. We invite everyone from all over the world to come to
San Diego for the events of this summer, as well as for an international protest
against the WTO meeting being held in Cancun, Mexico at the end of the summer.
That international protest will be held on the Mexican border, just a few miles
from San Diego.
contact us at contact [at] revolutionsummersd [dot] com for information on how you or your group can be involved in revolution summer, san diego. until the events begin, there will be planning meetings every wednesday at 8:00pm. contact [at] revolutionsummersd [dot] com for location details.
